• Worldwide Cosmetic Surgery Ops Hit 23 Million

or the first time Brazil edges out the United States in terms of the number of surgical procedures performed, and Botulinum Toxin takes the number one position for number of overall cosmetic procedures performed.

Final figures have been projected to reflect international statistics and are exclusively based on the estimated number of Plastic Surgeons in each country and the respondent sample.

The UK came 14th in the worldwide league table for operations – judged on the proportion of plastic surgeons per population. Interestingly Japan, Mexico and Turkey all came ahead of the UK.

The top five surgical procedures in the world were largely unsurprising:

1 Breast Augmentation 1,773,584

2 Liposuction 1,614,031

3 Eyelid Surgery 1,379,263

4 Lipostructure – Lipofilling – Stem Enhanced Lipofilling 1,053,890

5 Nose Surgery 954,423

Eddie Hooker, from Hamilton Fraser Cosmetic Surgery, said: “The figures show that there is still room for growth in the UK aesthetics industry. In particular there is much room for development of lipofilling (AKA fat transfer) in the UK market and these alternative ideas for breast reconstruction or cosmetic augmentation will be a growing trend in the UK over the next five years.”
