• Woman Injected With Snake Venom Instead of Botulinum Toxin

A plastic surgeon in Romania has admitted that he did not know what he injected his patient with because he’d “ordered it from a Chinese supplier – and the writing was all in Chinese” according to the victim.

38-year-old lawyer, Racula Crisan, was left paralysed for a year after what she believed to be standard Botulinum toxin injections below her eyes and in her lips had in fact been snake venom.

Hours after having the treatment, Crisan was admitted to hospital after experiencing swelling as well as a burning sensation in her face.

She was left unable to perform simple facial expressions such as laughing and crying as a result of the procedure but has now regained around 70 percent of her facial muscles after two years of intensive medical treatment.

The plastic surgeon, Adrian Oancea, has been taken to court by Crisan and been suspended from the Alba County Hospital – although controversially he does still see patients privately.

Snake venom has been known to be used as an anti-wrinkle substance but only as a cream in small quantities and then applied to the surface of the skin rather than injected.

This situation further highlights the importance that cosmetic doctors and nurses order their stock from reliable suppliers and know exactly what they’re purchasing.
